Grass Seeding

From Family foundations to a trusted partner in resource recovery.

From its early foundations laid by owners Ern and Dana Dupere, Benedict Recycling Newcastle celebrates its 10 year anniversary this year, marking its growth into a trusted name in waste management and resource recovery. Family values remain central to operations, culture, and long term vision, with multiple generations contributing to the success of the Recycling Centre.

The key driver for the success has been an unwavering focus to meet the demands of a growing Newcastle and Hunter Region, from Novacastrian family homes to the infrastructure supporting local communities, employment and industries.

“Benedict saw the opportunity to bring real recycling to the Newcastle Region so we got stuck in and committed. It’s satisfying to see what’s been achieved over the past years at Newcastle. I remember the old derelict and unused site that we started with in 2014. It is a very different site today”, says Ern Dupere Director of Benedict.

A decade of progress

Located within the Steel River Eco-Industrial Precinct in Mayfield West, the facility plays a key role in supporting circular economy outcomes across the region. While many operators are still transitioning, recycling and reuse have always been at the core of how we work.

Since commencing operations in 2016, our Newcastle Recycling facility has strengthened its presence across the Newcastle and Hunter Region, delivering large-scale recycling for construction, demolition, and industrial waste streams. The site is currently achieving an 89% resource recovery rate.

“Achieving an 89% resource recovery rate is something we’re incredibly proud of. It reflects years of continuous improvement in both our processes and our people,” says Dayne Steggles, Business Manager.

Our people and our next chapter

As the business continues to grow, one thing remains constant — our people. From those who were there in the early days to the team we’re building for the future, it’s their experience and commitment that drives the business forward.

Following the recent acquisition of parts of Benedict Recycling Pty Ltd by Igneo Infrastructure Partners (IWS), Benedict Recycling Newcastle remains part of the proudly family-owned group, alongside Benedict Sand & Gravel, Benedict Industries, and Bowral Waste Centre—continuing a legacy built over generations.

The next ten years will see even greater demand for sustainable building solutions. More recycling and less landfilling will be our continued focus for Newcastle and the Hunter Region.  Together, we can achieve truly world-class circular material success through innovation in an ever-changing world and our growing region.  Our people will ensure we meet the challenges for a more sustainable future. We celebrate this milestone with gratitude and determination for continued success.
