A young Carrington couple got the surprise of their lives when Newcastle Knight’s players Slade Griffin and Herman Ese’ese knocked on their front door and asked if they’d like a hand cleaning up. Last month Laura Parker and partner Michael Hidalgo entered Benedict’s ‘Win a Clean-Up Crew’ competition and were drawn out as worthy winners.

And the clean-up crew couldn’t have arrived at a better time. Only recently the couple had purchased their first home. “We’re right in the middle of renovating EVERYTHING – so there’s loads of bricks, timber and concrete everywhere” said Laura – a die-hard Knight’s fan, pointing to the numerous piles of DIY waste that had quickly accumulated around the property.

No time was wasted with small talk. After a quick meet’n’greet, the team pulled on the work gloves and got stuck into the hard yakka. Alongside the Knight’s players, the Clean-Up Crew also featured a few of Benedict Recycling’s ‘stars’ too including champion Sales Rep Mick Crompton. In a real team effort, the boys worked together to get the job done in just under two hours.

“We couldn’t believe it – we never thought we’d win” said Michael, relieved not to be lugging load after load by himself before adding “we still have a long way to go and that means we’ll still be taking our waste to Benedict, but it’s handy to know you offer FREE trailer hire and that we can borrow it whenever we need it”.

Together with the ‘clean-up’ the prize also included a signed and framed Knight’s jersey. “The jersey is unreal. It’s going to look so good in my man cave” said Michael with a sly wink, before Laura chimed in. “It really was win/win for us. We both love the jersey and, we’re also very passionate about the environment. Knowing that Benedict is going to transform our waste into recycled products that go back into building other community projects is fantastic too”.
