When excellence is a prerequisite.

The first stage of Western Sydney Wanderers (WSW) centre of excellence at Blacktown International Sports Park is well and truly underway.

Scheduled for completion in December 2019, the $18 million joint venture between WSW & Blacktown City Council will realise the Wanderers’ long-term vision to establish a youth academy that benefits their senior women’s and men’s teams and stems down to the grassroots to include players as young as 11.

Over the past month Benedict has supplied Houghton and Meredith Civil (aka. H&M Civil) with over 6,000 tonnes of washed sand from our Sandy Point Quarry. That’s upwards of 800 tonnes trucked in daily – more than enough to keep the earthworks moving forward at full speed.

Working on behalf of Blacktown City Council for Western Sydney Wanderers, H&M are carrying out stage one – the construction of two sand-profile, natural turf sports fields – using Benedict s30 (-4mm washed sand).

Next in line are two fields with Eclipse Reinforced Turf Surfaces which utilise Benedict’s S31 (-2mm fine washed sand) – also from our Sandy Point Quarry.

As well as providing drainage aggregates, road bases and various other materials for the civil works, the surrounding amenity landscaping will also feature additional Benedict products including garden mixes, soil improvers and enviro-mulches.

On completion, a total of 8 new playing fields will be built – of which there will be one FIFA accredited synthetic pitch, two state-of-the-art reinforced (hybrid) natural turf fields, and three sand-based natural turf fields, all constructed to meet international football standards.
